THE 11th Lloyd's List Asia Awards held in Singapore on October 29 was a glittering celebration of the best in the Asian shipping business. Over 450 senior executives from across Asia gathered at the Marina Mandarin Hotel for the gala dinner.
A total of 18 companies, organisations and individuals were honoured as Asia proved why it is rapidly becoming the leading force in global shipping.
Out of 18 awards 16 were chosen by and independent judging panel drawn from industry associations, academic institutions and private companies.
“This year has undoubtedly been a challenging year for shipping, and the business world at large, however it is also challenging times that bring to the fore true leaders. These leaders we see represented here as the winners of the Lloyd's List Asia Awards,” said Lloyd's List Asia editor, Marcus Hand.
The highlight of the evening was the lifetime achievement award for Pacific International Lines, founder and chairman, YC Chang, chosen by panel of senior journalists from Lloyd's List. The award was accepted on Mr Chang's behalf by his son SS Teo, who is also managing director of PIL.
The newsmaker of the year award, also chosen by Lloyd's List senior journalists honoured the Master and Chief Officer of the Hebei Spirit, Jasprit Chawla and Syam Chetan, from V.Ships.
