Analysis: Somalia ransom costs set to touch $50m

RANSOM costs paid to pirate raiders off Somalia could spiral to $50m this year, fuelling copy cat attacks and a specialist underwriting boom in London.

Lloyd’s insurer Hiscox says the frequency of abductions is now “unprecedented” and estimates total pay outs in 2008 could range from anything between $25m-$50m.
