Cammell Laird are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the Technical Department.

The ideal candidate will have experience of both design and integration of electrical/electronic systems into new build or in-depth refit programmes in the commercial and defence sectors.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following core skills:

  • Experience of ship design and construction support in new build or refit environments.
  • Experience of ships electrical systems such as generation, switchgear and distribution, machinery control and alarm systems, domestic services, navigation systems and communications equipment.
  • Experience in the production of installation specifications and system block diagrams from customer requirements and sub-contractor information to facilitate the installation of new equipment on board ships.
  • Production of load balance calculations, lighting level calculations, short circuit calculations and power consumption.
  • Experience in the production of detailed schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Flag State Regulations.

Desirable Skills:

  • AutoCAD User
  • Project Management/Engineering Experience

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HNC/HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Incorporated Engineer or have the necessary skills and experience to achieve Incorporated Status
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution

The role is subject to a 6 month probationary period.

Engineer/Ship Manager Vacancy

 

The Engineer/Ship Manager is responsible for the overall planning and managing of repair, refit & conversion projects on vessels within the yard and off site. The Engineer/Ship Manager needs to possess good decision making skills and responsibilities will include:

• Managing ship repair contracts and conversions from start to completion as an individual manager or as part of a larger project team, both onsite in Merseyside or at the customer’s vessel

• Managing people, products and equipment within set budgets in addition to negotiating with third parties in order to deliver the project on time to the customer

• Ensuring financial controls are in place to manage and control sales and costs

Ideally the candidate should have a sound working knowledge of the procedures and processes undertaken in shipyards and have the following attributes and skills:

• Have the ability to interpret complex specifications and technical drawings

• Have the ability to communicate effectively with the Project department/senior management and advise on progress

• Be able to interact with customers and liaise with suppliers

• Have a trade skill background and be educated to ONC Level or above in a relevant engineering field

• Have a good understand of Excel and Word and possess a full UK driving licence

The Offshore Pollution Liability Association Limited (OPOL) exists to administer the obligations of its oil industry members pursuant to the terms of the OPOL Agreement.

OPOL provides an orderly mechanism (within the OPOL financial limit) for the prompt settlement of claims arising out of an escape or discharge of oil from offshore exploration and production operations. It also ensures the adequacy of financial responsibility of members.

With the retirement of the current post holder an opportunity has arisen for a Managing Director to be responsible for the operations of OPOL. The successful candidate will be accountable to the Board of OPOL.

The successful candidate will maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC). They will be responsible for executing any plans agreed in conjunction with OPOL’s Board of Directors for the future operations of OPOL to reflect the changing environment in which OPOL now operates.

This is a UK based part time position involving an anticipated commitment of 2 to 3 days per week. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with  strong intellectual and analytical skills combined with an aptitude for stimulating open and positive dialogue.
