A JOINT news probe into Russia’s shipping tactics for hiding its trade in stolen Ukrainian grain has won an industry award.
Bellingcat, Scripps News and Lloyd’s List collaborated on the investigation “Russia’s Ghost Fleet”, published in July last year.
Bellingcat and Scripps News have been named the winners of a 2024 National Edward R Murrow Award in the network TV category for excellence in innovation.
Lloyd’s List data analyst Bridget Diakun combed through vessel-tracking data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence to help reveal the movements of the grain ship Mikhail Nenashev (IMO: 9515539) for the story.
The awards are handed out each year by the US-based Radio Television Digital News Association to stories that “uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the public”.
Diakun won the 2023 Seahorse Multimedia Journalist of the Year award for her story on trade in “stolen” grain from Russia-occupied Azov.
