Globus buys two kamsarmaxes from chairman
US-listed dry bulk owner agrees to pay a combined $54m for bulkers built in 2014 and 2016
Secondhand deal comes amid ongoing fleet expansion with ultramax newbuilds
GLOBUS Maritime, a Nasdaq-listed dry bulk carrier owner, has continued its expansion with a pair of secondhand kamsarmax acquisitions.
The vessels are being purchased from company founder and chairman, George Feidakis, whose son Athanasios is Globus’s chief executive.
The move is set to bring the fleet of Greece-based Globus to 10 bulkers by the end of the year, with two ultramax newbuildings still on order.
The company has taken delivery of three ultramax newbuildings this year, the latest being the 64,000 dwt GLBS Magic (IMO: 9972816), which was handed over just last month by builder Cosco KHI Ship Engineering.
The combined price that Globus has agreed to pay for the privately owned Feidakis vessels is $54m.
The majority of the purchase price is to be paid at delivery of the vessels, which is expected within the current quarter, and is expected to be funded from company cash.
The company has agreed to pay $27.5m for a 2016-built kamsarmax and $26.5m for a slightly larger 10-year-old vessel. Both vessels are fitted with scrubbers.
Under the deal, amounts of $18m and $17m are to be paid, respectively, as first instalments, while the remainder is due to be paid within the next year in one lump sum without incurring interest.
The two remaining ultramaxes on Globus’s orderbook are scheduled due to be delivered in 2026 by Nihon Shipyard.
