Bulker reports multiple explosions in Red Sea
UKMTO reports first attack in more than two weeks
A bulker carrier has reported three explosions in close proximity while transiting the Red Sea. The incident is the first reported attack since October 10
A BULKER is said to have been targeted three times while transiting the Red Sea on Monday — the first reported Houthi attack in more than two weeks.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations said on X that the master of the Liberia-flagged panamax Motaro (IMO: 9310290) reported three explosions “in close proximity” to the vessel within the space of two hours, but that the vessel and crew were safe.
The first attack took place about 25 nautical miles south of Al Mukha, Yemen, at 1735 hrs local time.
Aside from a suspicious approach reported last week, this is the first incident reported by the UKMTO since October 10, when the Houthis struck the Liberia-flagged tanker Olympic Spirit (IMO: 9327097).
More than 100 incidents have been reported since the Houthis started to make threats against shipping last November, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center.
