Tim Wilkins to take over at Intertanko
Wilkins will replace outgoing managing director Katharina Stanzel on January 1
Stanzel has led the association of tanker owners since 2012, but will step down at the end of 2024 after serving as only the fifth leader of the organisation
TIM Wilkins will succeed Katharina Stanzel as managing director of Intertanko on January 1, 2025, after being elected by the association’s council.
Wilkins is currently deputy managing director and environmental director and has 25 years’ experience with the association of independent tanker owners.
He said he was “honoured to lead Intertanko and humbled by the support of the association’s members”.
“My focus will be on shaping a sustainable future for the tanker industry by supporting members through the decarbonisation transition, safeguarding the future of our seafarers and actively addressing the complex geopolitical challenges we face.”
Stanzel is only the fifth managing director in the organisation’s history and has led Intertanko since 2012.
“It has been an absolute privilege to work with and serve the interests of Intertanko’s members worldwide and develop, guide and direct the fantastic team of professionals we have in the secretariat today,” she said.
Stanzel will remain at the organisation through the transition period, Intertanko said, to ensure a “seamless handover”.
Chairman Paolo d’Amico also stepped down last week, after his six-year term ended.
Intertanko’s council of members elected Rolf Westfal-Larsen, who took over on November 20.
Westfal-Larsen served as vice-chairman before taking the top job.
“With Rolf, we have a chairman who will continue to represent what Intertanko stands for; quality, future-focused, independent tanker owners and operators,” d’Amico told the meeting of Intertanko’s council.
