US strikes Houthi target in Yemeni capital
Airstrike targeted ‘key command and control facility’
The US has struck a Houthi ‘command and control facility’ in Sana’a, Centcom said. The facility ‘was a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels’
US forces struck a Houthi “command and control facility” in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a, US Central Command (Centcom) said on Monday.
“The targeted facility was a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden,” Centcom said on X.
The strike comes after the Houthis carried out two attacks against US-flagged vessels and navy ships so far this month. Both were successfully repelled.
The Iran-backed faction claimed it launched 16 missiles and a drone at three US-flagged ships on December 2 and was “accurate and direct”. However, Centcom refuted the claims, saying destroyers USS Stockdale and USS O’Kane successfully repelled three anti-ship ballistic missiles, three drones and an anti-ship cruise missile.
The Houthis said they targeted the same three vessels and destroyers again on December 10. Centcom said the destroyers “engaged and defeated” multiple attack drones and an anti-ship cruise missile headed for the convoy.
Centcom called the two attacks “reckless”, but confirmed no injuries or damage to any vessels was sustained.
