James Fisher orders newbuilding tanker quartet in fleet renewal push
Dual-fuelled vessels to be constructed at China Merchants
UK shipowner James Fisher and Sons has ordered four ‘state-of-the-art’ dual-fuel tankers for an undisclosed price at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard
LONDON-LISTED James Fisher and Sons has inked orders for four tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng as part of fleet renewal push, the company announced on Monday.
The four state-of-the-art vessels will have liquefied natural gas dual-fuel propulsion and will haul oil products and chemicals, the company said.
Financial details of the transactions were not disclosed.
“With this project we are bringing pioneering new technologies and sustainable practices to the maritime sector,” said Krystyna Tsochlas, James Fisher’s head of maritime transport.
“These new vessels will enable us to support our long-standing customers while helping them to achieve their environmental performance and sustainability ambitions.
“We are firm in our commitment to environmental stewardship, and the new vessels will feature technologies aimed at reducing emissions across our shipping operations, improving our efficiency and strengthening our commitment to delivering a low carbon future.”
The company added two vessels two its fleet in recent years that were likewise built by China Merchants: the UK-flagged, 6,100 dwt Sir John Fisher (IMO: 9944297) and 6,130 dwt Lady Maria Fisher (IMO: 9944302).
“A number of successful features” from the two vessels will be carried over to the newbuildings, James Fisher said, including “optimised hull form, waste heat recovery through cooling water and exhaust gas, 100% LED lighting and environmentally controlled engine room fans”.
“In addition, the vessels will incorporate further energy efficiency measures to enhance their sustainability, in particular to address emissions in port,” the company said.
The first tanker is expected to be delivered at the end of the year.
