MOL takes delivery of first ‘green’ MPV
The vessel will run on a mono-fuel engine fuelled by marine gas oil, as well as wind power
Mitsui OSK Lines said Prima Verde is the first vessel in the world to be made from green steel and use an MGO propulsion system
MITSUI OSK Lines has taken delivery of what it has called the world’s first vessel to be made from green steel and use a marine gas oil propulsion system.
The Liberia-flagged, 17,611 dwt multipurpose vessel Prima Verde (IMO: 9983487) will be operated by MOL’s dry bulk subsidiary.
It has a hull made from green steel produced by JFE Steel through the mass balancing process, which means the emissions reduction achieved through green steel production elsewhere can be attributed to any steel product, including Prima Verde. This particular mass balancing scheme is third-party certified by classification society ClassNK.
The MPV was delivered at the Onomichi Shipbuilding yard in Japan and is equipped with a Japan Engine MGO engine and two VentoFoil wind propulsion devices, manufactured by Ecowind.
MOL said it aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 through initiatives such as the Prima Verde project.
