AET appoints Shell veteran as new chief

Maritime industry veteran Nick Potter, formerly of Shell and BG Group, has become AET’s new chief

Potter will also join parent company MISC Group’s executive leadership as vice-president for petroleum and products, as outgoing AET chief Zahid Osman takes over an expanded role

SINGAPORE-based tanker operator AET has named Nick Potter as its new president and chief executive.

Potter will also serve as vice president of petroleum and products at AET’s parent company MISC Berhad, joining its executive leadership team.

The appointment comes as former AET chief Zahid Osman transitions into an expanded role as president and group chief executive at MISC.

With over 35 years of experience across the maritime and energy sectors, Potter most recently served as head of shipping and maritime for Asia Pacific and Middle East at Shell. He has also led commercial, technical and operational teams globally over his career.

Potter began his career at sea as an engineering officer before taking on progressively senior positions at Shell and BG Group. This has given him extensive expertise in tanker operations and maritime logistics.

Beyond shipping roles, Potter has been an advocate for causes including energy transition, maritime talent development and seafarer welfare. He has contributed actively to industry bodies, such as Oil Companies International Marine Forum, the Singapore Maritime Foundation and the International Chamber of Shipping.
