North Sea blaze boxship taken to safe berth in Aberdeen
Stena Immaculate jet fuel tanker remains in a stable condition with salvage ongoing
Containership Solong set to arrive at Scottish port later in week
BOXSHIP Solong (IMO: 9322554), which caught fire after a collision with Stena Immaculate (IMO: 9693018) in the North Sea earlier this month, will now be taken to the port of Aberdeen for safe berthing, according to a statement from UK Coastguard.
“Solong will be under tow by one tug and accompanied by another tug, plus a vessel with counter pollution measures should they be required. Tug and tow are scheduled to arrive at Aberdeen later this week,” said chief coastguard Paddy O’Callaghan.
Stena Immaculate — the tanker laden with jet fuel that impacted with Solong — remains in stable condition with salvage work ongoing.
UK Coastguard is supporting local authorities leading the onshore response to pollution, with plastic nurdles washing ashore in Norfolk and Lincolnshire.
Clive Washbourn managing general agent Navium has a 40% line on Solong , which is entered with P&I club Skuld, according to a marine insurance source.
