Cargo pumped from Stena Immaculate
The US-flagged tanker will head to Great Yarmouth, UK under tow
Containership Solong and Stena Immaculate were involved in a collision off the UK coast in March 2025, which penetrated two of the tanker’s cargo tanks
THE jet fuel cargo of stricken US-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate (IMO: 9693018) has been successfully pumped to fellow tanker Fure VYL (IMO: 9983956), UK Coastguard said in an update.
Chief coastguard Paddy O’Callaghan said: “Preparations are ongoing to prepare the vessel to enter the port of Great Yarmouth safely under tow, later this week.”
He added that UK Coastguard continued to support local authorities in their response to onshore pollution from Solong as a result of the collision, including plastic nurdles, in both Norfolk and Lincolnshire.
“The clean-up operation has moved from a proactive to reactive response,” O’Callaghan said. “UK Coastguard will continue to keep the overall situation under close review.”
Containership Solong arrived in Aberdeen on March 28. Owner Ernst Russ said it would understand more about the condition of the containership once further salvage assessments had been made, though the owner said the damage meant it was likely to be declared a total loss.
