Investigation opened into how woman was fatally injured by truck during disembarkation
GREEK ferry giant Attica Group has voiced its sorrow at the loss of a woman crew member on board a passenger ro-ro in the port of Patras.
The unnamed victim, a 47-year-old Greek member of the hotel department, was said to have been fatally injured by a truck during disembarkation after AF Claudia (IMO: 9243435) docked at Patras in the early hours of Friday morning.
The 24,418 gt, Italy-flagged vessel, built in 2001, is chartered in by Attica from Ancona-based Adria Ferries.
It was operating on a Venice-Igoumenitsa-Patras service.
Greece’s shipping and island policy minister Vassilis Kikilias said an investigation into the incident had been opened.
Offering his condolences to the victim’s family, he said on X/Twitter that the tragedy was a reminder of the daily risks run by seafarers.
“Their safety and protection should always be the first priority,” Kikilias said.
Attica said that it was offering support to the woman’s family and loved ones.
