New bookings data points to US import plunge in May and June

  • Cargo bookings from China to the US are down around 40% in recent weeks versus pre-tariff levels, according to Vizion data
  • US import bookings from all countries are down over 20% in recent weeks compared with levels before Trump’s tariffs
  • Data on estimated cargo arrivals implies top US ports could suffer 30% year-on-year drop in import volumes in May-June

Data on cargo bookings allows the market to infer how US imports will fare as a result of Donald Trump’s tariffs. ‘This is not looking good,’ said Kyle Henderson, chief executive of bookings data provider Vizion
