Forth Ports launches Tilbury expansion plan
Planning application is first step in expanding river Thames facility
Former power station land will be repurposed and included in Thames Freeport under plans submitted
FORTH Ports has unveiled plans for its latest expansion at the port of Tilbury on the river Thames.
The group has submitted an outline planning application to the local authority to develop a 100 acre brownfield site located immediately adjacent to Tilbury2 extension, which opened in 2020.
If the proposal is adopted, the Tilbury 3 expansion would be included under the Thames Freeport structure, allowing it to benefit from tax incentives that Forth Ports said would bring investment to the area.
The proposals for T3 accommodate a range of activities, including general industrial storage, warehousing and processing; a construction material and aggregate terminal; container handling and storage; and vehicle storage.
“This is an exciting time for the port of Tilbury as we submit our plans for Tilbury3 which form part of our growth investment strategy to expand our operations in support of our customer’s growth markets in renewable power, recycling and logistics,” said Forth Ports chief executive Stuart Wallace.
“T3 will sustain existing roles and create many new jobs; contribute to the local economy; and future proof the port of Tilbury in supporting the economies of Greater London and the South East.”
