Boxship recycling nosedives as less than 2,000 teu of capacity sold for scrap
- Five containerships, with a combined capacity of 1,900 teu, have been sold for recycling since the beginning of 2025
- Boxship scrapping volumes are at their lowest level in 20 years
- Only a sustainable downturn in freight rates and charter rates will provide a significant upturn in demolition
Until such time as container line operators make an en-masse return to the Suez Canal route, boxship recycling volumes will be limited
