IMO fuel rules put ammonia in the lead by 2037, says GMF
- LNG or ammonia ships the most competitive before mid-2030s when ammonia takes the lead
- Rules point to zero-emission e-fuels, but don’t encourage their production
- Many shipowners content to ‘wait and see’ given uncertainty of fuel paths
The Global Maritime Forum says LNG and ammonia are the most competitive ways to comply with the new IMO green rules, with ammonia the cheapest from 2037. Green e-fuels will struggle without industry support
