Ship recycling stays low, with just 20 ships beached during May
- Half of all ships recycled in May were provided by the dry cargo sector, with only one tanker recycled during the month
- Upturn not expected until shipowners start to return to using the Suez Canal
- As the Hong Kong Convention is set to enter force later this month, there are concerns about limits on recycling capacity
The number of ships recycled in May was even lower than in April, although larger ships contributed to a rise in total gross tonnage scrapped
