Cosco advances its first methanol dual-fuel conversion on ultra-large boxship
- Works to convert the 20,000 teu containership Cosco Shipping Libra are expected to be completed in August
- The 2019-built vessel is only the second conversion of a containership to burn methanol fuel and follows Maersk’s 15,000 teu Maersk Halifax which was retrofitted last year
- A total of 11 containerships are confirmed booked to be converted from conventional fuel to methanol dual-fuel specification
The 2018-built Cosco Shipping Libra arrived at a Chinese shipyard in June for the conversion that is expected to take 12 weeks
