Comoros accuses EU-sanctioned ship register of fraudulently flagging ships on its behalf
- The EU sanctioned Intershipping Services LLC — which it said operates the flag registries of Comoros and Gabon — as part of the bloc’s latest sanctions against Russia
- A Comoros government official told Lloyd’s List that Intershipping Services ‘is not authorised by the Union of Comoros’ to act on its behalf
- Comoros did have an agreement with Intershipping, but it expired in 2013, the official said
The EU recently sanctioned a company for registering sanctions-skirting ships under the Gabonese and Comorian flags. The government of Comoros says the company had no authorisation to act on its behalf and was fraudulently registering vessels under the Comorian flag
