Vessel collision causes light oil spill off Singapore
A bunker tanker and dry bulker collided off Singapore, causing a light oil spill that authorities say won’t cause significant environmental damage
One crew member suffered minor injuries but both vessels remain stable while clean up and investigations continue. Navigational safety is not impacted
A COLLISION between Singapore-flagged bunker tanker Marine Dynamo (IMO: 9956719) and Malta-flagged dry bulker Flag Gangos (IMO: 9643908) off the coast of Singapore has resulted in a light oil spill.
The two vessels collided on September 1 at 0925 hrs local time, after departing from Pasir Gudang in Johor and Kukup anchorage in Malaysia respectively.
Both vessels are stable, although one crew member aboard Flag Gangos sustained minor bruises and sprains, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
Light oil sheens were sighted around Marine Dynamo. Its master said the collision had caused marine gas oil to spill on to the waters.
The MPA said the spill is not expected to cause significant environmental damage, as MGO is a light fuel that is likely to evaporate and break down. There is no impact to navigational safety, it added.
In response to the incident, the MPA deployed patrol craft and spill response craft. Further investigations are underway.
According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence, the 2013-built, 56,526 dwt Flag Gangos is beneficially owned by The Veniamis Group, while the 2023-built, 8,270 dwt Marine Dynamo is owned by Vitol Holding.
The two companies have been approached for comments.
