LNG shipping’s historic slump drags on, with no end in sight
- Atlantic basin spot rates are now the lowest since late April; Pacific basin spot rates are lowest since late June
- Overcapacity expected to continue to cap spot rates for the rest of 2025 and possibly through next year
- Period rates are also under pressure. Three-year period assessment now the lowest since late May; one-year period assessment is lowest since mid-June
This was widely expected to be a miserable year for LNG shipping. That prediction has come to pass. Rates are now falling back again and hopes for a normal winter rebound are fading
