Revolutionising terminal operations: Noatum Ports launches the PORTOS Project

IN THE evolving field of maritime logistics, technological advancement is pivotal to sustaining efficiency and competitiveness. Noatum Ports is supporting this evolution through its PORTOS Project.

Powered by Spain’s “Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia” (Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan), this initiative is centred on the digitalisation, automation, and optimisation of terminal operations, leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.

PORTOS CORE: the engine of digital transformation

At the heart of the PORTOS Project lies PORTOS CORE, a state-of-the-art terminal operating system designed to redefine operational standards. This advanced software is being implemented across several key terminals in Spain, including Santander, Sagunto, Tarragona, Castellón, Málaga, Autoterminal and Pasajes, setting a path toward greater operational efficiency.

PORTOS CORE is built upon a microservices architecture, enabling modular and independent functionality for its components. This architectural approach not only expedites the deployment of new terminals but also facilitates the seamless adaptation of existing ones to accommodate various types of cargo.

A key feature of PORTOS CORE is its ability to optimise manual processes, particularly administrative tasks. By adopting this innovative platform, Noatum Ports is setting a new benchmark for terminal management, ensuring agility and resilience in a swiftly evolving market.

CATOS: transforming container terminal operations

Complementing PORTOS CORE is CATOS, a system developed by Total Soft Bank, tailored specifically for container terminal management. CATOS has been instrumental in enhancing operations at Noatum Ports’ terminals in Spain, specifically in Castellón, Sagunto and Málaga.

CATOS integrates all operational modules to ensure streamlined workflows and optimal resource utilisation. Its precision in tracking and tracing container movements boosts operational efficiency and gives customers greater transparency. Real-time access to accurate information is a critical advantage in today’s fast-paced logistics landscape and CATOS promises reliable performance.

A collaborative endeavour for smarter terminals

The PORTOS Project, officially titled Digital Terminal Operational System-PORTOS, represents a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders. Beneficiaries include Autoterminal, S.A.; Noatum Terminal Castellón, S.A.; Noatum Terminal Málaga, S.A.; Noatum Terminal Polivalente Santander, S.L.; Noatum Terminal Sagunto, S.L.; Noatum Terminal Santander, S.A.U.; Noatum Terminal Tarragona, S.A.; and Noatum UECC Terminal Pasajes, S.L.

The initiative, driven by Spain’s Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (MITMA) under File Number PATSYD/22/00225, is an example of public-private partnerships fostering innovation, meeting modern maritime logistics’ challenges.

The project’s primary objectives are to reduce port congestion, optimise terminal management, and enhance data processing capabilities.

A vision for tomorrow

The PORTOS Project is not merely a technological upgrade; it represents a forward-looking vision for the future of terminal operations. By harnessing the power of advanced analytics, AI and IoT, this project aims to establish a multiplatform system that optimises processes and mitigates port congestion.

The PORTOS Project, combining technology and collaboration, represents innovation in shaping the transformation of maritime logistics.
