Can the IMO wait out the geopolitical storm?
- Russia has correctly read shifting geopolitical sands to avoid the worst of sanction pain
- Countries that didn’t have a say in global rulemaking 80 years ago certainly will now
- The IMO’s technocratic nature might see it survive this shifting of the geopolitical plates
The IMO’s glacial pace of regulation may yet insulate it from widening geopolitical fault lines. But move too slowly, and nation states might decide to bypass it altogether
