VLGC rate pullback continues, unaffected for now by Chinese port fees

  • US Gulf-Japan VLGC spot rates were assessed at $50,094 per day on Friday, the lowest level since June 3
  • Middle East Gulf-Japan VLGC rates were at $47,456 per day, the lowest since May 13
  • A key variable for the VLGC market is whether Chinese port officials levy fees on ships operated by US-listed Dorian LPG

  • Analysis

Spot rates for very large gas carriers have been declining since early September. Chinese port fees could impact the market, but there has been no discernible change in the rate trend since the fees were announced
