Spot LNG shipping rates surge in Atlantic basin but outlook remains grim
- Spark’s assessment for Atlantic basin two-stroke carrier spot rates has jumped 75% week on week to $53,000 per day, the highest level since early October 2024
- Pacific basin two-stroke carrier spot assessment is more muted, at $35,250 per day, roughly in line with where it was at this time last year
- Baltic Exchange’s assessments for six-month, one-year and three-year periods remain very weak and have seen only limited gains
Spot rates in the Atlantic basin are up sharply. LNG shipping will take whatever good news it can get it, but there are still too many vessels chasing too few cargoes and too many newbuildings set to debut before related liquefactions projects come onstream
