Feeder vessel order boom pushes boxship orderbook past 11m teu
- Almost 500 new containerships have been ordered since January with a combined capacity of over 4m teu
- A sharp pivot toward sub-10,000 teu feeder and regional vessels reflects both a tight charter market and growing urgency to renew ageing shortsea fleets
- Some 65% of all new vessels ordered this year are of below 10,000 teu capacity
The orderbook share has now reached the equivalent of 35.2% of capacity of the fleet in service, a level only previously surpassed in 2010
