China ramps up imports of US soyabeans, boosting bulker demand
- Soyabean volumes are on the rise after a slow start; January is on pace to be the strongest month for US exports to China since the trade dispute began
- 2025-26 sales to China have still not reached the target agreed to in the trade deal
- USDA currently predicts total US soyabean exports in the 2025-26 marketing year will be the lowest since 2012-13, when volumes were impacted by a severe drought
Who knows how long the trade détente between America and China will last, but for now, it is positive for dry bulk demand, hiking US soyabean cargoes at a time of the year when they’re normally winding down
