Hapag-Lloyd and Seaspan forge ahead with methanol dual-fuel boxship conversion project
- Retrofit of the first of five Seaspan-owned containerships to operate on methanol-fuel is expected to take three months
- All five ships operate on long-term time charter to German container line Hapag-Lloyd
- Complex operation by a Chinese shiprepair yard is the third conversion of a containership to burn methanol
The 2014-built Seaspan Yangtze has arrived at a Chinese shipyard for retrofit, following confirmation of planning for the dual-fuel conversion project in April 2024
