Yanbu loading risk rises as Iran targets energy infrastructure

  • Crude exports from Yanbu jump to 3.4m bpd, more than double pre-war level but still 1.1m bpd shy of the port’s loading capacity, according to Vortexa
  • Ship-position data showed 33 VLCCs and suezmaxes loitering off Yanbu at midday on Thursday, with more tonnage en route
  • Tankers of US-listed companies shied away from Bab el Mandeb amid Red Sea crisis, but Frontline and DHT are pursuing lucrative fixtures in Yanbu

Exports from the Saudi port of Yanbu in the Red Sea are increasingly important to the VLCC market. Iran’s targeting of Yanbu’s refinery and port on Wednesday points to heightened shipping risk. There is also concern that the Houthis could renew their attacks
