Baltic Exchange decides against suspending Middle East Gulf indexes
- Baltic Index Council approves continued pricing of MEG indexes based on March 4 guidance
- Proposal to change MEG index definitions to include non-MEG load ports was also considered, and rejected
- Most respondents to Baltic query, 55%, favoured status quo, with 28% supporting definition change and 18% supporting suspension
After consulting with index users and panellists, the Baltic Exchange will continue pricing Middle East Gulf freight indexes as before. It agrees to ‘provide further clarity on what methodology change would look like’ if future suspensions are required
