Vehicle carrier newbuild deliveries boom as first 10,000-plus ceu ship handed over
- Global vehicle carrier fleet capacity set for another big expansion in 2026, following record growth in 2025
- In 2026, around 60 more ships will be added, with many of them so-called Large Car and Truck Carriers exceeding 9,000 ceu
- Demand for capacity is driven primarily by booming Chinese vehicle exports, which are expected to grow further in 2026
A milestone in vessel capacity has been reached with the delivery of the 10,800 ceu Glovis Leader. Even larger vehicle carriers, able to load more than 12,000 cars, are set to be delivered later this year
