The week in newbuildings: Ordering slows but high-value vessels continue to be signed
- China’s Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding won a contract from Shanghai Changshun Shipping for six 6,150 teu containerships, with options for four more vessels
- In the tanker sector, South Korea’s Pan Ocean placed orders for four VLCCs at Hanwha Ocean, following earlier VLCC contracts by the same owner at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries
- The LNG carrier segment was particularly active with three owners signing up for a combined six ships, all at South Korean yards
Orders for 22 vessels were confirmed in the past week in the boxship, gas and crude oil tanker sectors
