The week in newbuildings: Tanker orders lead busy week for Asian shipbuilders

  • Tanker orders were particularly strong, including one from Zodiac Maritime at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry for four suezmax tankers
  • Zodiac Maritime also ordered two 7,000 ceu pure car and truck carriers from Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard
  • Greek owner Thenamaris ordered two LR2 tankers at Hengli Heavy Industries, while Spain’s Ibaizabal Tankers booked two suezmax tankers from the same yard

  • Analysis

Shipyards in China, Japan and South Korea recorded strong newbuilding ordering activity in the past week
