Vehicle carrier newbuild boom continues as Ray Carrier Carriers signs 10-ship order
- Tonnage provider Ray Car Carriers has ordered 10 pure car and truck carriers from China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International, in a deal worth more than $1bn
- The 8,200 ceu vessels will be delivered between 2029 and 2031 and are the Isle of Man-based owner’s first PCTC order at a Chinese shipyard
Latest deal adds to significant resurgence in PCTC ordering, with 61 new vehicle carriers contracted since the start of 2026. Huge growth in Chinese vehicle exports and an ageing global fleet are encouraging owners to invest heavily in new ships
