LNG-fuelled fleet growth outpacing bunkering infrastructure, warns DNV
- The global LNG bunkering market is expanding rapidly but infrastructure growth is failing to keep pace with the increasing number of LNG-fuelled vessels
- Around 70 LNG bunker vessels are currently in operation, with some 30 more scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2029
- But DNV believes that the global fleet will need to expand to up to 200 ships by 2030 to meet projected demand
Closing the supply-demand gap will require more than additional bunker vessels as ports will need greater LNG storage capacity, compatible transfer systems and digital tools to coordinate bunkering operations
