Maersk opposes sulphur cap review proposal

The Danish giant is preparing for the massive fuel switch, which it claims could cost it up to $2bn. With availability not a concern, and fuel safety something that can be addressed ahead of time, Maersk is not supporting the recent controversial proposal by major flag states and shipping associations to introduce an experience building phase in 2020. The company is instead concerned with enforcement and has warned flag and port states they need to do their jobs and ensure the rules are followed

Maersk’s Simon Bergulf said the company is testing compliant fuels on its vessels and does not foresee compliant fuel availability issues in 2020
