K Line to trial CO2 capture with ClassNK and Mitsubishi

The plant will be deployed on one of K Line’s vessels and research and development on compact facility design will be done in collaboration with project partners Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co and ClassNK. K Line said that as the world’s first marine demonstration test, the project will provide invaluable insights into facilities design and technologies for capturing carbon dioxide emissions and achieving zero emissions on board vessels, but the challenge will be to develop the more compact equipment required by marine environments along with the development of system requirements necessary for stable continuous operations at sea

The two-year project will test a small-scale, marine-use demonstration plant for carbon dioxide capture on board a vessel. The equipment will first need to be evaluated and verified before being installed on board
