MOL, which had previously been enagaged in transporting LNG on the Northern Sea Route, has ordered three icebreaking LNG carriers on the back of a long-term charter contract with Arctic LNG 2
The Japanese line says the new vessels will be able to ply the Northern Sea Route throughout the year and the option going east via FSUs will reduce voyage distances to Asia by approximately 65% compared with the normal route via the Suez Canal. The system will make increasing use of ship-to-ship LNG transfers at transhipment terminals in Kamchatka and Murmansk
