Green methanol to lift transpacific freight rates 17% in 2030, UMAS report says

Renewable hydrogen-derived green methanol to increase freight rates by up to $450 per teu in 2030, according to a UMAS report that pointed to a need for a $600 carbon tax

The worst-case scenario analysis from maritime consultancy UMAS points to freight rate increases of up to 17% on certain routes because of the rising costs of alternative fuels such as green methanol, while it finds that a flat rate carbon tax of $600 could be needed to close the green premium
