CMA CGM to partner with UN World Food Programme
The WFP will join the line’s Containers of Hope scheme
The CMA CGM Foundation has already shipped more than 38,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid since its creation in 2005
CMA CGM will transport 1,000 teu per year free of charge to support the efforts of the United Nations World Food Programme.
The WFP has joined the French carrier’s “Containers of Hope” programme.
Launched in 2012 by the CMA CGM Foundation, the programme uses the carrier’s logistic network to ship containers of humanitarian goods globally.
“This partnership with the World Food Programme reflects our desire to serve communities in need by mobilising our logistical, financial and human resources,” said CMA CGM Foundation president Tanya Saadé Zeenny.
“Thanks to the expertise and assets of the CMA CGM Group, our foundation will be able to support WFP operations around the world, providing vital assistance to those who need it most and helping to fight hunger and poverty.”
The Containers of Hope programme already partners with many household names, including: UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins sans Frontières, Action Contre la Faim, the French Red Cross, Première Urgence Internationale and La Chaîne de l’Espoir.
In January 2024, CMA CGM announced that AmeriCares (which provides medical supplies to people affected by disaster or poverty) would also join the programme.
It will ship 100 teu of crucial AmeriCares medical supplies to places such as Cambodia, Colombia, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala and Tanzania.
