Boxship upsizing continues apace
Average ship sizes on the Asia-Europe trade have nearly doubled since the start of the decade and will only rise, according to a new study by Alphaliner. While the capacity of ships serving the transpacific trade have not jumped so dramatically, they have still increased by an average of one third since 2010
On the Asia-northern Europe trade, average capacity has increased to more than 16,000 teu and will likely rise to closer to 17,000 teu in 2020, with the roll-out of more 23,000 teu ships over the course of the next year, according to Alphaliner
