Consortia block exemption: The importance of being relevant

EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager acknowledges that globalisation and digitalisation are redefining the relevant market. However, Brussels is not proposing any changes to the consortia rules that are based on market share thresholds

Before the consortia block exemption is renewed for four more years, the European Commission should redefine the relevant market, since it would be unacceptable to burden the shipping industry with a definition that dates back to 1997, and which Brussels regards as obsolete
