Crew do not need to be on lifeboats during drills
Seafarers continue to perish by being present on lifeboats when they are launched during drills, even though regulations do not require them to be. There have been 481 deaths involving lifeboats since 1981, while hundreds more have been injured, says crew manager association
InterManager has highlighted the issue, given the continuing needless deaths, because some parts of the industry are not aware that seafarers do not have to be present in lifeboats during drills which take place every quarter
