Greece-owned bulk carrier struck by missile as two Houthi attacks reported
Malta-flagged Zografia is the third ship to be attacked since UK and US military strikes on Houthis on Thursday
Two incidents have been reported by UK Maritime Trade Operations on Tuesday. These are the 30th and 31st seen since mid-November
THE OWNER of a Greece-operated supramax bulk carrier, Zografia (IMO: 9486013), has confirmed the ship was struck by a missile on the Red Sea, in the Houthis’ 31st attack on commercial vessels transiting through the region since mid-November.
Piraeus-based Vulcanus Technical Maritime Enterprises said all crew were safe, there were no injuries and the vessel was continuing its transit.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported two separate incidents at 1100 hrs GMT, one 57 nautical miles north of Assab, Eritrea, and the second 100 nautical miles northwest of Saleef, Yemen.
UKMTO said the second vessel was hit by an unknown object in the cargo hold and authorities are investigating.
Vessel-tracking indicates the Malta-flagged, 2010-built, 56,894 dwt Zografia was in the area northwest of Saleef at the time of the incident.
There were 13 other vessels in the area at the time of the reported incident, but the ship has yet to be identified and no further details are known.
One of the vessels in the vicinity was Qatari-owned liquefied gas carrier Al Rekayyat (IMO: 9397339), owned by Qatar Gas Transport Co. Eight of the other vessels were bulk carriers, including four owned by Greek shipowners, including Star Luna (IMO: 9440849), which is owned by Star Bulk Carriers.
Since US and UK airstrikes last Thursday, there have been four reported incidents by UKMTO, including one missile that fell 500 metres short from Russian tanker Khalissa (IMO: 9388780), and yesterday’s attack on Eagle Bulk supramax Gibraltar Eagle (IMO: 9702508).
